12/17/2011: Libby is a beautiful, 4-year-old, wheaten girl, born April 18, 2007. She was raised from a puppy as an inside "only dog" in a private home, but then came into CLSR due to her former owner needing to have multiple back surgeries. Libby is crate-trained and potty-trained, but needs some work on her leash skills. She weighs 19 lbs.
Medically speaking, Libby is up-to-date on her shots and tested heartworm negative. She’s spayed, microchipped, and has been dewormed in CLSR’s care. She also receives her monthly heartworm preventative and flea preventative meds in her foster home. We've noticed that when she's anxious due to a new situation and/or thunder or fireworks, etc., Libby occasionally suffers from a mild scottie cramp (a painless back spasm), which goes away on its own when she rests. Here in foster care, we rarely see it anymore now that she knows us and her daily routine. Our vet has checked it out and says that managing her environment (minimizing scary stuff) is the best way to handle it for her.
Libby has a happy, buoyant personality! She’s energetic and loves to play with stuffed toys (and de- stuff them!), and then rest at your feet. While not raised around other dog companions, she’s been very good with the other cairns here at her foster home and is working on her intra-dog manners.
Libby would definitely benefit from obedience training. She didn’t receive that in her former home due to her owner’s medical condition, so she tends to be a little mouthy in play and to pull on lead, for example. However, these behaviors would be easily extinguished by an attentive, dog-knowledgeable owner because she wants to please you and she is very smart.
Does this wheaten beauty appeal to your heart? If so, please go to www.camplonestarrescue.org where you’ll find her pictures and bio and a way to apply for the pleasure of her company. Thank you for helping cairn rescue.
